Mobile Internet Usage
According to a new survey recently released by Ruder Finn, mobile devices are used primarily to connect socially with friends and family, manage personal finances and post opinions in support of a cause or a position. Survey results show that 91% of mobile users go online to socialize in comparison with 79% of traditional internet users.
Compared to traditional online users, mobile web users are more likely to go online for business purposes and 1.6times more likely to manage finances online. Top mobile business activities are online banking (46%), check bill/credit card status (40%) and read business blogs (33%).
As for activities less likely engaged in, the survey uncovered that mobile device users are 1.5 times less likely than traditional online users to go online to educate themselves and 1.4 times less likely to go online to research.
The survey also detailed the differences of mobile device usage between men and women. Most notably, women offer opinions on issues more than men do, while men access the web via mobile more than women to compare prices when shopping online.
Mobile technology has enabled people to conduct business and personal tasks on the go. The implications of this and the opportunities that arise as a result are huge – making mobile an important channel for businesses to communicate with existing customers and pursue prospects. Is mobile part of your marketing communication platform today? If not, do you expect it will be in the near future?
